Little Newcastle consists of a handful of houses arranged around the former castle grounds, now the Village Green, and the Swan, the local pub. It also has a small, charming historic church, which is known for its unusual windows and was mentioned for the first time in a 12th century grant to Pill Priori, Milford Haven, by Adam de la Rupe, builder of the village’s “new castle”.
Little Newcastle became famous as the birthplace of the once fearsome pirate Black Bart [Bartholomew Roberts] (c. 1682-1722). Several of the escapades immortalized in the movie “Pirates of the Caribbean” are based on his records.
